My Story

Please contact Kady Hammer ([email protected]) for more information about this pet.Sweet gent seeking fresh start and love! COTTON NEEDS A FOSTER OR A FOREVER HOME!!!!
Name: Cotton Best Guess for Breed: German Shepherd/Shepherd mix
Best Guess for Age: 3 years SEX: Male
Approximate Weight: 70 lbs
Gets Along With: Other dogs! We haven’t seen him with cats or kids but he can be tested.
Currently Living at: South Carolina shelter
Special adoption considerations: Cotton is heartworm positive, but this Lucky Dog got extra lucky! This pup is part of a groundbreaking study we are conducting at our South Carolina Rescue Campus that has the potential to change the way shelters across the United States treat heartworm positive dogs. All dogs in the study are placed at random in either the 2 shot or 3 shot protocol with strictly monitored protocols in place. Four weeks following their final injection, the pups are eligible to transport to the DC area for placement in foster or adoptive care. After treatment concludes, we work with adopters to arrange a free follow up heartworm test after 6 months, followed by a second test at 9 months. We are happy to discuss this treatment and which phase of the study this Lucky Dog is in right now! Just email the adoption coordinator – the address is at lower left!
Cotton is Looking For: His forever home! This sweet gent needs a new home through no fault of his own. He’s eager to once again have his own humans – German shepherds are known for being quite attached to their people! Long sniffy walks and world exploration with them is on his wish list, as are a cushy dog bed and quality kibble. But you know what’s right at the top of the list? Being safe and loved and under his own roof for all his days. Shelter staff say he’s good with other dogs. He’s in his prime as an adult, well out of the puppy yips, and is more than ready to ease into his new humans’ home and hearts. In exchange, they get the immense amount of love and loyalty he is storing up for his new family. What do you say? Is that going to be you?
